Final Blog Entry 2: Final Overview

In retrospect this semester has been such a ride. From an incredible and engage start, which drew me into fun discussions with my peers and witnessing the impact that COVID-19 has had thereโ€™s a lot to really think about. Discussions in class were really engaging and brought new light and perspective, which feeds into aโ€ฆ

Final Blog Entry 1: Resources and Key Industry Targets

Thinking about Design for myself and long term, itโ€™ll be important for me to establish connections to certain figures to draw inspiration from, or having go to places to help pull my creativity. Iโ€™ve found that some of the best learning sources actually come from Instagram, and following individuals such as Iris Van Herpan, fashion_for_bank_robbers,โ€ฆ

Reflection: Keep Co

Keep Co was an interesting contrast compared to CraftACT, and was an interesting to listen into, especially with the context of the Design Entrepreneurship lecture. Understanding that while Canberra or places might have strong communities for Design, that there may be nicheโ€™s or fields of Design that I might be passionate about that just arenโ€™tโ€ฆ

Reflection: CraftACT

This lecture was really interesting about learning about the culture and Design community in Canberra. As someone whoโ€™s grown up in Canberra and not being as familiar with events, it was really insightful to learn about CraftACT and the fact that they run events for people to network and showcase their design work. Iโ€™ll admit,โ€ฆ

Reflection: Professional Orientation Q&A

With COVID-19 being so impactful and affecting not just my education, it was interesting seeing how it affected this networking event as well. Reflecting on the Q&A session, it was interesting seeing how interactions between people were so much more different to what I expected. With everyone being stuck at home, I noticed that studentsโ€ฆ

Reflection: Chris Doโ€™s Q&A

From the start of this Q&A, was this emphasis of social media and wide reach, and getting started utilizing every opportunity to my ability. This was really interesting, as several weeks ago we learned about the importance of networking, and it encouraged me to grab hold of all the forms of social media I could.โ€ฆ

Reflection: Standford University Webinar: โ€œDesign Thinkingโ€

Design thinking has been something I keep hearing being echoed throughout all my tutors across all my subjects ever since Iโ€™ve started studying Design. Itโ€™s crucially important, that being able to work through the different stages of Design thinking is the key to success. Something that echoed the previous reflection, was that communication and understandingโ€ฆ

Reflection: Design Entrepreneurship

โ€œA business plan without design, worthlessโ€, I felt was something that really gravitated towards my interest. This lecture really helped open the significance of design as a discipline that has had profound impact and become essential to modern society. Iโ€™d always recognized that Design is important, but to consider it more than agriculture in termsโ€ฆ

Reflection: Tom Seekhan, The Business of Design

One of the key points mentioned early in this lecture was the ideas around failure and accepting that. Itโ€™s one of the things we first learned in our visual representation lecture in our opening weeks, and honestly itโ€™s so important to drill into my brain. That failure is the key to success, and that itโ€™sโ€ฆ

Reflection: Site Visit

Unfortunately due to the circumstances around COVID-19 it had prevented me from utilizing an opportunity to visit a site. But I had previously attended the National Gallery during the Virtual Reality exhibition. It was an extremely interesting experience, and it honestly helped shape some of the vision I want to pursue in my career. Duringโ€ฆ

Reflection: Guest Lecture

Unfortunately due to some circumstances at the time, I had missed out on the guest lecture from the third years coming into class. I had spoken with my tutors and was advised to come up with various questions and think about what the answers to those wouldโ€™ve been coming from third years. I had actuallyโ€ฆ

Reflection: Networking

Networking is something Iโ€™ve always enjoyed doing and this short video wasnโ€™t quite as informative for me personally, but I can clearly see how it would be incredibly important for individuals. Iโ€™m a naturally extroverted person, and a lot of my mindset has always focused about presentation, engagement, and most importantly being myself. The videoโ€ฆ

Reflection: Professionalism in design, career paths + Visualisation

This was a really thought provoking lecture. Upon some of the conversations held in class, and some of the experiences held in visual representation, I found it echoed a lot of the reoccurring messages of thinking about my career. It brought me back to when I was quite young, and had always envisioned of beingโ€ฆ

Reflection: Eduardo Kranz Lecture

Eduardo Kranz brought up a lot of similar points to as mentioned in class that really reinforced the messages being communicated. Hearing his perspective and experience throughout his career, and how each of his experiences have enabled him to evolve in doing what he loves was really interesting. Especially his example, that him working asโ€ฆ

Week 2 Professional Orientation:

Second week in, and itโ€™s been a very constructive lesson thatโ€™s got me thinking about careers. The discussion held in today’s class was very engaging, interesting, and full of perspective. We were prompted to discuss among ourselves and with the rest of the class about what exactly is the difference between a career and aโ€ฆ

The “Growth Mindset”

Watching the videos about the โ€œGrowth Mindsetโ€ was a nice refresher, I learned about this particular topic in my final years of study during Years 11, and 12, and itโ€™s a mindset Iโ€™ve taken on board as a core value. Iโ€™m a strong believer of pursuing a healthy, open, and positive thinking, which naturally feedsโ€ฆ

Week 1 Professional Orientation:

This first week into Professional Orientation was an interesting experience admittedly. I wasnโ€™t overly sure what to expect of the class, but I honestly wanted to make the most out of whatever the course had to over to me. To my pleasant surprise, the class did really speak to me, and in a sense, Iโ€ฆ
