About me and The Divine Deep!

Hi, I’m Light!

Hi there! My name is Light, a Design enthusiast, and have a passion for reflective thinking. I enjoy delving deep into critical analysis, and philosophy, especially when it comes to learning about different perspectives from the world around me. I come from a background in Industrial and Communication design, with a current specialisation with Artificial Intelligence, combined with User Experience design. In my free time I often explore cities or towns, savouring the local cuisine, socialising with my friends, and playing tabletop or video games. I live for new experiences, and always find myself excited when I get the opportunity to meet people. I am currently based in Melbourne and would be delighted for opportunities to work or collaborate across the globe.

My most recent projects represent my exploration into Artificial Intelligence, in context to a stop motion approach. Where I craft every frame, utilising detailed prompting, to create a surrealist focused approach to an Immersive Video experience. Some of my most notable work has been involvement in animated video for the theatrical project, BORDERLINE in 2023, an animated videos the Divine Ascension, The Dance with AI, and sound design for an animated series Star Quest.

I’m thrilled to submit “The Divine Deep” to this festival. Developed collaboratively with Alana Cronin in late 2023, this experimental, animated video was created using Artificial Intelligence and human crafted approach to the sound.

For this project, I employed audio data conversion techniques and visual direction, while Alana served as the composer and sound designer. Converting the audio into data, I fed it into my Artificial Intelligence tools to compose the movement for the images. The result is approximately 4597 unique images, each accompanied by its own set of prompts. This process involved extensive discussion as certain frequencies influenced the intensity of the figures displayed.

Throughout development, I conducted frequent audience testing to understand how viewers responded to the prolonged movement of serene imagery. My aim was to evoke a deep, resonant response, using repetitive movement to create a hypnotic effect. In focusing on repetitive movement, accompanied by a deep ocean soundscape, the project aims to create an immersive state of being.

The repetitive motion aims to create a continuous sense of movement, even when the audience blinks. The intentional darkness at the end of the experience maximises the impact of prolonged exposure, allowing the images to linger in the viewer’s mind after it’s conclusion.

By combining traditional music composition with generative techniques using Artificial Intelligence, “The Divine Deep” is the manifestation of the journey we undertook into the depths of our creativity. The sound carries a significant role in drawing the audience into the sense of movement, allowing a soothing approach to the shift of images as the audience settles into the repetition. By handcrafting this, it allowed us to utilise noises at key moments throughout the exposure, to ensure the audience could deeply engage with their own thoughts.

Through this work, I aim to represent the creative potential of a hybrid approach with Artifical Intelligence can provide . Thank you for participating in “The Divine Deep” experience!
