A3 Week 7 Session 1

For this task I felt there were a few meaningful narratives I could pursue for my environment design. In class, we spoke about conveying a personal journey, one that might hold significance to us, and this resonated with me as a person who loves expressing themselves. I let my mind run wild with brainstorming various ideas, having had firsthand experience with games like The Stanley Parable, and Death Stranding, led me to thinking about connecting a sense of purpose with each step taken for the character. One of my initial ideas for approaching this brief, is that with every step taken, a piano note will play, to help symbolize this sense of a dream. One of the things I felt could be very meaningful could also be to design an interactive experience that might focus on trauma, by utilizing a bleak or very limited colour scheme to create a very washed out and dreary experience. In class we played some firsthand demos to collect ideas on what was being looked for in the brief, and this helped inform some of my direction. I especially found the “ten moons” experience engaging, as the interactable objects would add something new to the environment, which I feel could be a really interesting direction to explore. Another direction I was interested in exploring was the idea of a perspective shift from first person to third person, however in developing my concept I’m being mindful to not go overboard with the brief, as my experience with unity is quite limited, and breaking the scope of the project might prove too difficult considering the timeframe.
