A2 Week 5 Session 1

Before beginning my designs in illustrator, I conducted some feedback through my peers and my tutor both in person and online. I asked them to mark the most “attention grabbing” icons so I could further develop them in illustrations. The major reason I chose this approach, is that based in my previous experience as a designer, I’ve often found success through iteration on peer feedback. One of my main goals with this project was to create strong visual identity using elements of my research in the icons and being able to identify the theming of “dream” in the shaping of the icons was a key part of my design process. Having locked down nine icons, I started developing them in illustrator initially 1:1, and then evolved them from there. By having my nine icons chosen, I could borrow elements from certain icons and incorporate them to create unison amongst the icons. It was my intention for my audience to feel the sensations of hypnotism and discomfort. Some examples, include utilizing repetition through circular and linear lines across my designs to bring unity across them. In looking for my colour inspiration, I looked directly at the source material I drew inspiration for and used the adobe colour program to help me extract colour schemes that I could experiment with. In my iteration, I opted to test it out across all nine of my icons, so I could find one or two schemes that could be utilized across my final designs.
