Reflection: Professional Orientation Q&A

With COVID-19 being so impactful and affecting not just my education, it was interesting seeing how it affected this networking event as well. Reflecting on the Q&A session, it was interesting seeing how interactions between people were so much more different to what I expected. With everyone being stuck at home, I noticed that students were relatively quiet for majority of the call, but listening to the insights were also really interesting. Seeing how people have had to adapt to their new circumstances and how impactful it’s been on their work truly emphasised everything I’ve learned until this point about how crucial communication is to Design work. Some of the questions that were asked and answered felt like it crossed some similar territory between previous tutorials and Chris Do’s Q&A, but it was still quite interesting hearing their perspective and what sort of communication they’ve needed to use. COVID causing hiccups and how utilizing programs at home and specific workspaces to help keep your mind focused on making progress was actually some of the big takeaways from this Q&A, and although I would’ve loved to have had face to face interaction, I felt like it was a learning experience in how to deal with situations where you might be restricted in that personalized interaction. Really keen to attend a networking event in the future where I’ll get to be in person and physically engage.
