Keep Co was an interesting contrast compared to CraftACT, and was an interesting to listen into, especially with the context of the Design Entrepreneurship lecture. Understanding that while Canberra or places might have strong communities for Design, that there may be niche’s or fields of Design that I might be passionate about that just aren’t established or slot nicely into certain work environments. CraftACT emphasized points around community, but Keep Co while emphasizing points of community, strengthened these ideas of freelancing that I’ve been thinking about over the course of the semester. Something touched upon previously were these ideas of shared workspaces, and networking around likeminded individuals, and how you can use these to progress your own design career. The lecture around Keep Co was great to help giving me thoughts on managing potential freelance life and avoiding procrastination, such as giving myself time to rest, which I know I can be quite strict with. The reinforcement about promoting yourself and developing your identity was interesting hearing about it from not just a you-to-client perspective, but a me-to-myself perspective and how to manage yourself. I found this lecture helped me evaluate my organization skills, and the crucial ideas of time management, which are skills I’ll definitely need to hone in if I continue to plan on doing freelance work long term. Understanding my own self cost, and how to set appropriate benchmarks for myself so that in a financial aspect I can look after myself and live a comfortable life will be essential alongside developing skills of time management and organization.
