Reflection: CraftACT

This lecture was really interesting about learning about the culture and Design community in Canberra. As someone who’s grown up in Canberra and not being as familiar with events, it was really insightful to learn about CraftACT and the fact that they run events for people to network and showcase their design work. I’ll admit, I was a bit uncertain about the prosperity and scale of Canberra, and was thinking that I was going to have to potentially move to cities such as Sydney or Melbourne. But knowing just how much Canberra has connections even international, and a strong thriving community was so exciting, and has my eyes glued to social media to hunt down networking opportunities when they can arrive! Though, I think what’s really opened my eyes is to the opportunities that are here, and the sort of artistic style that Canberra has come into being “the living design laboratory”. Reflecting on this lecture, shows me that there’s promise and opportunity for everything and everywhere, and that again, this emphasis on networking and communication is important. It circles back into these ideas behind collaboration, understanding, and teamwork, which I personally think is exciting and inspiring. When thinking about how this might affect some of my perspective long term, it’ll encourage me to want to chase down more collaborative activities, and continue to want to build a sense of community amongst my peers in the goals that we might learn more from one another and design the world as a team.
