Week 2 Professional Orientation:

Second week in, and it’s been a very constructive lesson that’s got me thinking about careers. The discussion held in today’s class was very engaging, interesting, and full of perspective. We were prompted to discuss among ourselves and with the rest of the class about what exactly is the difference between a career and a hobby. It involved a lot of reflection as to my activities in my free time, and my work experience to see whether the value that came out of them was for personal gain. Which in multiple cases during class, I felt both intertwined quite often, but my peers had quite different experiences as well, which I found especially interesting, since it brought multiple new perspectives of the workforce such as peoples main incentive revolving around income, socialization, or productivity, regardless of personal enjoyment out of that job. Something that I felt like was exceptionally interesting in that status anxiety is something to be quite mindful of, and that it’s quite a common occurrence in the workforce. It made me more aware of not falling into the pitfall traps of tying my income to my personal worth, and being able to have honest critical analysis with myself, my environment, and my future. I walked out of the class with internal reflection of the skills that are my strengths and weaknesses, what I enjoy, and most importantly, what I have seemingly endless energy for.
