Week 2 in Review:

Today’s class was an interesting introduction into the world of User Centric Design. We discussed and reviewed what representations of bad User Design was, and how important designing products that would be able to function on a broad scale while emphasising how important it was to be inclusive of as many people as possible. It was fascinating learning about what constitutes as a “well designed” product, and a poorly designed one, with students bringing in several examples into class to discuss. A particular example that I engaged with was the discussion around the new Apple laptop, the Macbook Pro, and how that despite innovating in a meaningful way, it ultimately fails the user as being unclear and unintuitive. This was due to there being no clear way to adjust volume, or turn the macbook on, which was a common complaint of the new product. This example taught me clearly that even when making steps forward, you must always keep the user in mind, and think about accessibility.
